Tel Aviv Skyline

Here are some pictures of Tel Aviv taken from the roof of my school building. The building is 10 stories tall and sits on an elevation just north of Tel Aviv proper, so the view is very nice, especially for watching sunsets.

What is really remarkable, but difficult to appreciate in a photograph, is the amount of large, high-rise construction cranes that are visible along the skyline. In the scope of this photo, there are probably 60 or 70 cranes visible with the naked eye. I've heard someone joke that the national bird of Israel is the crane. Bad joke.

Apparently the economic troubles effecting much of the world are not so serious in Israel. A Jerusalem Post article mentioned that the demand for real estate is something like 37,000 households a year in the Tel Aviv area. With very little actual land-area undeveloped, most of the real estate available to accomodate the demand is vertical. Many predict another New York City developing.(There is an airport oceanside that the plane is approaching)

In other news:

We recently completed an academic block of Human Anatomy, Embryology, and Histology. Very difficult, but very interesting. Was unaware that I was capable of learning so much in such a short amount of time. I shaped and cultivated a moustache to help me through the last couple of exams. I'm confident it was effective.

  1. Nothing commands respect like a good moustache. I was on post the other day at a hotel in Manhattan. This would be 61st and Park. So I'm sitting in the car and around the corner strolls none other than Sam Elliott. He saw me recognize him and shot me the classic 'point and wink' which might come off at the very least as slightly douche baggish if not vaguely homoerotic if not for the classic 'Stache featured in The Big Lebowski and Tombstone. I say go with it until it stops working; which at my estimate will be never.
